Pevptiva probiotic supplement also claims to deal with problems related to intestinal discomfort, bloating, and digestive function in humans. 

It can relax your body just within 30 minutes of taking it. However, to experience digestive benefits, Peptiva may take an as long time as 8-10 weeks.

Dr. David Katz, the director, and co-founder of Yale Prevention Research Center holds the credit for manufacturing the groundbreaking prebiotic formula.

Peptiva is specially formulated with the view of nighttime use. When your body replenishes itself during the night, the time is ideal for promoting the colonies of health-promoting bacteria. 

Thus, Peptiva works with the combined action of sleep-promoting ingredients such as GABA and Melatonin. 

Potential Side Effects Of Peptiva

The probiotic supplement Peptiva can have some minor side effects resulting from the use of ingredients and probiotics. 

Mostly probiotic supplements or the bacterial strains they are made up of are safe for the majority of individuals. 

Probiotics are useful bacteria that are already present within your body. For the first few days, it may cause mild side effects such as diarrhea, flatulence, gas, and upset stomach. 

Peptiva works to improve sleep with the help of ingredients like melatonin and PharmaGABA. 

Melatonin sourced exogenously is safe and also tolerable at higher dosages. However, as per reports and studies, it might have little or very mild side effects such as sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, and headache. 

The exogenously sourced melatonin should be avoided by children, breastfeeding, and pregnant women.

Peptiva Probiotics contains 26 billion CFUs and uses a proprietary blend of probiotics.

Since this is a proprietary blend, it is challenging to say whether probiotics are present in clinically useful quantities. Five different probiotic strains, two plant extracts, and amino acids are included in the proprietary blend.

These strains and active ingredients include:

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus (ATCC SD6865 and SD6866).
  • Bifidobacterium bifidum (ATCC SD6869).
  • Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis (ATCC SD6870).
  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus (IMC 501).
  • Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (from PharmaGABA), 100 mg.
  • Melatonin (delayed and immediate release), 1.5 mg.
  • Valerian Root Extract, 50 mg.

Lactobacillus acidophilus (ATCC SD6865 and SD6866)

Lactobacillus acidophilus is the most commonly used probiotic that is used to promote gut health.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is a type of bacteria that enhances gut flora balance, decreases gut inflammation, and enhances gastrointestinal function.

One clinical trial on patients with digestive problems/illness discovered that taking (L. acidophilus) this bacteria twice daily improved bloating symptoms after four weeks.

Bifidobacterium bifidum (ATCC SD6869)

Bifidobacterium bifidum is the most abundant bacteria in the gut microbiota of healthy breastfed infants, plays a significant role in overall health, and has been shown to strengthen your gut (1).

In one randomized trial, it was discovered that patients with IBS symptoms who took either a placebo or a B. bacterium strain for four weeks, once daily, fared significantly better than controls in terms of pain, bloating, digestive issues, and bowel control.

Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis (ATCC SD6870)

Bifidobacterium animalis is a species that has been shown to improve your gut microbiota and overall health by reducing dysbiosis, or a bacterial imbalance in your gut (2).

According to one randomized clinical trial, adults who supplement with B. lactis UABla-12 for six weeks experienced significant improvements in their quality of life, bowel habits, bloating, and IBS symptoms when compared to those who received a placebo.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus (IMC 501)

Lactobacillus rhamnosus is a bacteria strain found in the human gut that is frequently added to fermented foods.

According to research, the strain is effective in treating diarrhea caused by antibiotics and C. diff colitis, and cancer treatment-related diarrhea (3, 4).

A 2014 clinical trial found that adults who took this probiotic with enriched foods or capsules after 12 weeks experienced reductions in bloating, constipation, and irregular bowel movements. These improvements were seen in comparison to a placebo group.

Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (from PharmaGABA), 100 mg

GABA is a neurotransmitter and amino acid produced naturally by your brain, GABA reduces the response of your central nervous system to stimulation when it binds to receptors and fosters a calming effect (5).

A 2015 study suggests that taking GABA both alone and in combination with Apocynum venetum leaf extract was found to shorten the time it takes to fall asleep and increase slow wave sleep.

Melatonin (delayed and immediate release), 1.5 mg

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone in our bodies that regulates our sleep-wake cycle. This is our circadian rhythm, and it is responsible for promoting healthy sleeping habits.

A 2004 study found that taking melatonin reduced the time it took to fall asleep, increased total sleep time, and enhanced sleep quality when compared to a placebo.

Peptiva Probiotics + Sleep Support contains 1.5 mg of melatonin per serving.

Melatonin doses of 1-6 mg have been shown to be most effective for sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep-related breathing disorders, and other conditions, according to a recent 2019 review.

Valerian Root Extract, 50 mg

Valerian is a herb indigenous to both Asia and Europe. Its roots have been used to promote sleep for at least 2,000 years and appear to work in tandem with GABA (also found in this formulation) to promote restful sleep (8,9).

A meta-analysis of 60 studies and a review on Valerian root discovered that its roots can help improve sleep quality and reduce anxiety.

  4. Natural ingredients- Most of the ingredients included in Peptiva Probiotics and Sleep support are natural. Thus, there is very little risk to experience side effects while you take it.
  5. Easily available – Even though Peptiva doesn’t have any official website, the supplement is easily available in third-party stores such as Amazon and GNC.

Peptiva Cons: 

  1. Expensive for a few users: The probiotic supplement is expensive (i.e. $49.99/container) as compared to other probiotics with similar benefits. However, if it shows the results, Peptiva is still a good choice.

Dosage And Warnings

The dose for Peptiva as directed by the company is one capsule per day. Each container contains 30 capsules that will last upto a month. 

You should take the capsule at least half and hour to one hour before bedtime. It can be taken with or without food. However, we recommend taking the pill with some meal.

WARNINGS:

Peptiva should not be taken in case: 

  • You are under 18 since no research has been done for its safety in children and adolescents. 
  • If you are pregnant of a breastfeeding mother, Peptiva isn’t recommended. 
  • With people on prescription drugs, Peptiva should only be taken after consulting your doctor. 

Is Peptiva Worth The Money?

Peptiva probiotics sleep support is designed to improve your sleep quality and benefit your digestive system. It doesn’t contain many potentially harmful ingredients. 

The side effects of Peptiva are generally mild such as disturbed sleep, headache, anxiety, and stomach problems.
